The King Abdullah Sports City 60,000 seat stadium is the Kingdom’s first world class football stadium, along with a separate 1200 seats athletics facility. The project is a response to cultural as well as physical context. Given its location, environmental issues were woven into the architectural and structural design in a fully integrated manner. The Saudi football season is played in winter, generally in the evenings to avoid the daytime heat. Only areas with a high density of people are mechanically cooled; the main stadium has porous architecture to enable effective natural ventilation by harnessing desert breezes. The diamond-patterned screen set in V-shaped tiedown frames– its form has echoes of the traditional Arabic mashrabiya – protects spectators from wind and dust whilst allowing bulk air movement for ventilation and provides shade.

国王体育场是世界一流的足球体育场，一共有60,000个观众座位，同时其为国际赛事而配备了1200张运动员座位。该项目与当地的文化及城市肌理相互呼应。由于地处沙漠，环境问题自然成为了建筑与结构设计的重中之重。沙特的足球赛季定于冬天晚间举行，旨在避免白天的高温。只在人群密集的地方使用机械冷却装置，主体育场建筑采用了多孔设计，可以利用沙漠内的微风为场馆提供良好的自然通风效果。菱形的屏幕安装于V形固定架上——这种设计与阿拉伯的传统mashrabiy风格有异曲同工之妙——既保护了观看者免受风沙干扰，也可使大量空气流过以达到通气和遮阳效果。
